Residential Chimney Maintenance
Our Basic Maintenance package includes sweeping the chimney from top to bottom and vacuuming out the debris at base. We use wire brushes and extension poles to clean your chimney sufficiently.
Brick Pointing
When the brick separates from the mortar sometimes you can salvage the chimney by contacting Chimney Repair NY. One of our service professionals will evaluate the situation and instead of taking down the chimney and rebuilding, we can grind out the cement and re-point the brick. This process grinds out the old mortar allowing enough space for the new mortar to adhere to the brick and reconstruct a solid structure.
Chimney Lining
It is now a required building code to line the interior of the chimney when converting from oil to gas heat. The lining is a stainless steel sleeve that is cut to the custom height of the client’s home. The diameter of the pipe is determined by the existing dimension of the chimney, as well as the size of the pipe for each heating appliance. We use superior materials that are stronger than the single wall corrugated creating a better pull for the draft. As your home ages the chimney’s interior flues shift, offset and rot away therefore requiring you to replace the chimney lining. Also, there are many bricklined structures that have are no longer up to building codes and Chimney Repair NY can assist you.
Building or Extending Chimneys
We can take down old existing chimney structures and rebuild with new brick. We also extend chimneys on all dormers or extensions. Building includes interior clay flue sections and a concrete crown at the top. Concrete crowns are the cement at the top of the chimney layed at a pitch so the water runs off and away from the inside chamber.
Waterproofing
Clear water proofing is applied to existing brick that is beginning to discolor or split in an effort to get longer life out of them. Products we use include ChimSaver (produced by the U.S. Navy specifically designed for brick and cement) and Drylok.
Fireplaces
We perform all renovations for existing fireplaces. Work includes the interior firebox which is where the fire itself is actually burned. That brick is fire rated and any gap or hole renders the fireplace unsafe to operate. We install dampers which should stay closed when a fire is not being burned to keep any outside elements from getting in. We use top mounted dampers as they are more energy efficient. They mount at the top of the fireplace chimney opening and keep the cold air from traveling down the flue during the winter months. Also if your fireplace is not operational we are capable to do anything it takes to make it operational.
Video Scan
Our Video Scan services include sending a camera down the interior of a chimney to determine the condition or cause of the problem a customer is having. This is used mainly on Brownstones or Buildings because these are the units where the flue is greater than 30 Feet. The scan can be used on either fireplace or burner flues to determine what the interior condition is.
